Kelda Martensen (Seattle, WA) is known for her expanded print practice and innovative works on paper that explore tactile allusions to a pre-language way of storytelling. Her layered prints are created through woodblock, letterpress, screenprint, and monotype printing processes, which she then collages into final compositions. Her pieces have been exhibited in artist-run spaces, galleries, art fairs, and museums including The Hallie Ford and Kemper Museums of Art, SOIL artist-run gallery, Art on Paper in New York, the Brooklyn Fine Art Print Fair and J. Rinehart Gallery in Seattle where Martensen is represented. She has traveled to Japan, South Africa, Spain, Ireland, France, and Germany for artist residencies and cultural studies. Her works on paper are in private and public collections including the City of Tacoma, Microsoft, Tacoma Community College, and King County. Martensen has an MFA from Washington University in St. Louis and is tenured faculty at North Seattle College, where she is an educator and mentor in printmaking, book arts, letterpress, murals, and professional practices.
